Used shows signs of use may have cosmetic damage, but is in good working order
With 30 years of designing traffic safety equipment and over 10 years of designing in-car video, Kustom Signals, the industry leader, introduces your digital solution to in-car video.
Controller/Monitor Configuration Options
To meet varied vehicle configurations and departmental needs, we offer the option of mounting the monitor and controller separately or you can choose the integrated overhead console that includes a fold-down, swivel monitor. The overhead console option allows the system's main camera to be mounted within the console to increase visibility and eliminate the possibility of camera interference with airbag deployment. The overhead console is user-friendly and offers more features than ever before including two courtesy lights and an optional black & white rear-seat facing camera. The rear camera along with the optional in-car mic can covertly record evidence while suspects are detained in the vehicle.
Digital EYEWITNESS incorporates Sony s smallest zoom lens camera. It offers a 40:1 digital zoom ratio; the sharpest images; superior color and the best night video, with the highest resistance to headlight blooming and smearing. When activated, the backlight compensation feature provides more visibility during poor lighting conditions. Media Options
To accommodate departmental preferences, Digital EYEWITNESS offers the unique capability to record to a DVD-RAM disk or to a removable Hard Drive (HDD). DVD-RAM disks can store a shift s worth of video, up to 9 hours. DVD-RAM discs can be stored and managed using your existing media (VHS tape) management system, allowing you to forego the cost of a back-office video storage/management system. Unlike other optical formats that write sequentially and are therefore susceptible to vibration and shock, the RAM format writes to the disc randomly. Additionally, the RAM format includes critical error checking software that when combined with the recorder s memory buffer, allows any errors to be corrected immediately on the disc. The DVD-RAM format is the only optical format we recommend and offer for recording in a moving vehicle. The HDD option, when equipped with a 40 GB hard drive, can record up to 90 hours of realtime (30fps) video and includes two removable hard drives. When one drive is full, it can be turned in and stored or downloaded while the other is installed in the vehicle. With both the DVD and HDD options, Digital EYEWITNESS records a unique time code with each video frame. This code cannot be viewed without proprietary software. This software is also used to reveal and discourage tampering. The DVD and HDD use MPEG 1 compression, which is PC-compatible and can be viewed on any PC, without special software. MPEG 1 also offers significant storage requirement advantages over other compression schemes. Media Management
The Digital Eyewitness Media Manager help you easily store, transfer, search, and copy your digital files. The system consists of a server, SQL database, and a workstation(s) and it can be used with either the DVD or HDD option. HALT Testing
Digital EYEWITNESS was subjected to Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), which exposes the components to multiaxis vibration and shock, as well as rapid and extreme temperature changes. This testing identifies any design weaknesses and allows them to be corrected before production. Given the challenges of recording digital video in a patrol car, HALT testing was critical to ensuring the development of this product was successful.
* Environmentally-controlled trunk-mounted vault This maximum security fire and bullet proof vault withstands shock, vibration, and temperature extremes of a patrol car environment. The environmental system includes dura-blanket insulation, thermostatically-controlled dual heat pumps, heat sync brackets, and two fans to ensure efficient heat transfer. A double layer of Kevlar adds an additional level of protection to the recorded evidence.
* Media Storage Device An alternative to the environmentally-controlled trunk mounted vault, is the stand-alone media storage device (MSD) along with the electronics interface compartment (EIC). The MSD is shock/vibration resistant and mounts in the vehicle's cab, saving trunk space. It also offers the convenience of accessing the media from the passenger compartment. The EIC contains the system's main electronics. Requiring no environmental control, this compact enclosure can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle including a crowded trunk. More Features and Options
* Pre-event Recording The system s memory buffer automatically captures up to three minutes of video prior to record activation. If an officer witnesses a vehicle crossing the center line or running a red light before the recorder is activated, this video evidence is automatically captured and recorded. This powerful evidence can save court time and potentially money by quickly verifying what happened.
* Software Updates via PC System upgrades can be performed using a laptop. No software chip changes are required and there is less system down time during service.
* Audio Transmitter The standard transmitter provides excellent range and audio quality. The tone-coded squelch option controls when audio is received by only recording audio when desired thus eliminating false system activation. When configured with the optional Automatic Audio feature, the transmitter is automatically activated when the system begins recording ensuring no more missed audio.
* Optional Automatic Crash Record Activation The recorder is automatically activated when the vehicle is involved in a collision. This potentially invaluable feature is accomplished with a vault-mounted circuit board utilizing dual accelerometers, mounted perpendicular to each other. This configuration allows the device to detect impacts from all four sides of the vehicle. When a collision is detected, the Crash Record board will activate Digital Eyewitness' record command and capture the "pre-event" or "lookback" buffer memory. Which means that if the impact occurred in the view of the active camera, the collision and a segment of video leading up to the collision will be recorded.
