1 gallon thin laminating epoxy resin kit boat

10 pound net kit, about 1-1/4 Gallons, thin Laminating Epoxy Kit that's ideal for wetting fiberglass cloth.
8 pounds of this 10 pound kit consist of a modified epoxy resin. This 8 pounds of modified epoxy resin, packaged in a 1 gallon pail, is 90% pure epoxy resin, (diglycidyl ether of Bisphenol A, CAS # 25068-38-6, and if you care to research that you'll find this is the exact same chemical as Hexion Epon 828, Dow 331, or Ciba Araldite GY 6010,) and 10% of a very, very thin and 100% reactive epoxy resin diluent. The curing agent/hardener is 2 pounds of a thin, impact resistant, very fast curing, epoxy curing agent.
This is a very fast curing system. An unexperienced person should start out mixing 1/2 pound or smaller batches, 200 grams resin and 50 grams hardener. It must be mixed accurately by WEIGHT. It should not be used below 60-65 degrees to avoid curing/moisture problems (it is blush resistant but it will still blush in cold/cooler weather.)
The hardener in this kit is transparent orange, not perfectly clear. In a thin coating it will have a very slight yellow/orange tint to the transparent coating. It is not very UV resistant, outdoors it will develope a chalking white appearance over time and it should have a topcoat of epoxy paint or clear UV protection applied over this epoxy.
This epoxy is thin enough to brush on easily. It will then gels fast which minimizes problems with running.
To help you estimate the coverage, visit this website and check out the second chart: http:// /joints2.htm
The mix ratio of this kit is 100 parts resin to 25 parts hardener by WEIGHT. A scale will be needed to mix this epoxy at the correct ratio.
A 100 gram (less than 1/4 pound) mix has a pot life of about 15 minutes at 77 degrees F. However most people would be mixing more than 100 grams so figure 10 minutes in a one pound (457 gram) mix. If you spread it out, get it out of the can, it will gel a lot slower. The longer you leave it mixed in the container, the less working time you'll have. I would not recommend mixing more than a pound at a time until you have some experience working with it. I don't like to get those emails where someone says they mixed it all and it went hard and started smoking in the pail. Remember, the more you mix, the faster it will cure.
TEMPERATURE IS IMPORTANT: This epoxy kit should not be used below 75 degrees F., above 80 degrees is the best for 24 hours. It is also best if the epoxy resins are room temperature to begin with, not cold. In cooler temperatures this epoxy doesn't develpoe it's properties correctly, looks fine but will be very brittle. At higher humidity, this cured epoxy may cure with a little bit of blush (a smudgy, tacky surface) when it is fully cured, this is normal and can be removed with soapy water or solvent. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REMOVE ANY BLUSH BEFORE APPLYING ANOTHER LAYER OF EPOXY OR PAINT.
