A History of Airlines in Canada
Brings together all the fleet lists of Canada's major airlines as well as a history of aircraft and routes.
608 Pages, 8 1/2 x 11, hardcover, illustrated.
From the back cover: Dating from April 1937 when the federal government established Trans Canada Airlines (TCA) as the country's only national carrier, John Blatherwick has compiled historical data on all of Canada's major airlines. This history concentrates on aircraft and routes rather than people, and brings together for the first time all the fleet listings of Canada's major carriers.
The reader will appreciate the excellent organization of the work, which is divided into several logical parts, each part containing the histories of airlines of a specifc type. Part 1, for example, details the development of TCA/Air Canada, Canadian Airlines International, Canadian Pacific Airlines and Wardair under the classification of "Major Trans-Canadian and International Airlines", while Part 2, "Regional Airlines", details the history of the six regional airlines which merged to form Canadian Airlines International.
Commuter Airlines are covered in Part 3, and Part 4 deals with Jet Charter Airlines. Historical outlines are given in Part 5 for many of the small cariiers, both past and present, under the province of operation.
To complete his study, the author has included two additional types of airline operations: services maintained by provincial governments (Part 6), and agencies of the federal government, including the Candian Armed Forces (Part 7), both with extensive representative fleet listings.
