The holding strength listed on our magnets is the actual breakaway reading on a 2 thick mild steel plate with no air gap. The listed strength should be de-rated to 50% for holding applications and 25% for lifting applications. As with anything common sense should be used in your application. Do not use electromagnets to lift heavy objects over people. Please use caution if you purchase this for your kids, a magnet that is this strong could really cause a nasty pinch when energized.
This magnet is actually just dead inventory and is new. It has been on our shelf for several years so it could use a good cleaning.
