54503-63401 54503-63402 attenuator preamp 54503A 54502A

FYI! Sometimes you can swap attenuators if calibration fails and they might work on a different channel. Also calibration will fail if the 50 ohms is blown out.
If your BNC connectors are damaged, I can get you just the attenuator housing! Contact me.
The channel inputs are often exposed to hostile input signals. The most common failures I see on the 54503A are:
1. The 50 Ohm input can be blown open (1Meg ohm input works fine. This is not an obvious failure)
2. The FET DC restore path can be blown out. (only passes AC signals. You will not see this failure on HF signals.)
3. There are mechanical switches in these attenuator modules and sometimes the contacts are intermittent.
