Vintage village blacksmith solid steel 8" meat cleaver

Vintage meat cleaver in fair to good used condition. Overall length is 14 inches with an 8 inch long cutting edge. Blade is 4 5/8 inches tall at the tip and 3 1/4 inches tall at the heel. Steel extends through the wooden handle and is nearly 1/4 inch thick on top, near the handle. Blade is marked: VILLAGE BLACKSMITH - SOLID STEEL FORGED, over a partially stamped and partially double struck number 8.
Used condition. Handle halves are securely held by three brass rivets. The handle on the back side has a split at each end, extending through the rivets (photo 3 below). Handle shows wear, with a few chips, dings, and softening of the edges.
Blade appears lightly cleaned, but still has tarnish and staining of the metal - more so on the back side. A couple of the dark spots on the backside contain some shallow pitting - especially the one in the center of the blade (photo 4). The top edge has typical hammer dents. One tiny nick in the cutting edge, approximately 1 1/2 inch ahead of the heel. Overall the edge is clean and nearly very sharp.
* Most of my items are "used", usually offered as-found. Some items are from collections, some have been cleaned.
* No unhappy surprises here - I try to describe all significant damage, flaws, previous owners markings, etc.
* Your item will be carefully packed, often double-boxed.
