This type of retina surgery requires a period of time
during which a patient must keep the patient's face DOWN.
The surgery procedure involves the surgeon's placing of an air bubble
which holds the retina in place as it re-attaches to the back of the patient's eye.
Air is lighter than liquid, so it rises to the "top".
Being that the direction the bubble must go is the BACK of the eye,
it is necessary to keep the patient's head FACE DOWN.
This is the type pillow I used after my OWN surgery.
I found this pillow to be extremely comfortable.
