CARTESIAN PIXSYS 5500A DNA MICROARRAY PRINTING SYSTEM
Here is a good working PIXSYS 5500A PIN ARRAY PRINTING SYSTEM, made by Cartesian Technologies, just in from research center surplus. It is complete with computer system, software, and manuals. The new cost was about $60K in 2002.
The following is a description of the system taken from the manual:
"The Cartesian Technologies PixSys PA series array printing system consists of a dispense platform with a wash station, one or more ArrayIt Chipmaker pins, a vacuum source for the wash station and slide hold-down, peristaltic pumps for the wash station, the AxSys software, and optional hardware or software adaptations."
"The Axsys software is used to control the Cartesian Technologies robot, including the arraying units of the PixSys PA series. The software is used to instruct the PixSys unit to move the ArrayIt Chipmaker pins abouth the dispense platform."
"The ArrayIt Chipmaker pins function to transfer sample obtained at a microwell plate to a solid substrate, such as a glass slide or membrane. The pins dispense a fixed volume of sample onto a solid substrate. When properly used the pins are able to print a minimum of 100 spots per sample."
"The PixSys PA 5500 system is controlled by Windows software, which is accessed via a user provided PC. The operator may use Windows 95, 98, or Windows NT to operate this system. The ArrayIt Chipmaker pins are capable of dispensing nanometer volumes into arrays with centers as close as 150 microns.
