RA 55 accommodates up to nine (9) plug-in MST power supplies in a standard 19-inch wide rack mountable housing. RA 55's leftmost slot is used to hold an interface, MST 488-27, that will allow the remaining eight (8) MST modules to be fully programmed via the IEEE 488.2 instrumentation bus. The rack has two a-c input connectors to allow the load to be distributed over two mains circuits. The a-c is distributed internally to the plug-in MST power supplies. The rear of RA 55 has individual d-c output connections for each MST power module and a D-type serial bus connector for the BITBUS connection to the power modules. The MST modules plug in individually from the front and will current-share for redundancy combinations.

Kepco MST 488-27 Power Module Controller
The Kepco model MST 488-27 is a Power Module Controller which has the capability to program, control and monitor the outputs of up to 27 Kepco MAT, MBT, MST or BOP power supplies (power modules).
The MST 488-27 communicates with its Host computer over the IEEE 488 bus (GPIB) using either CIIL (Control Interface Intermediate Language) or SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) Languages. An auxiliary input port allows for communication via the RS 232-C (EIA 232) standard serial communications bus.
The MST 488-27 communicates with the MAT, MBT, MST or BOP series using the IEEE 1118 two-wire serial bus, which allows control over distances up to a maximum of 1000 feet (300 meters).
The IEEE 488 GPIB interface functions implemented by the controller are defined by the IEEE 488 Standard.
The MST 488-27 Controller interfaces to an MST power module via the RA 55 Rack Adapter; interconnection to the Host Computer on the GPIB is made via an IEEE 488 standard cable. If the serial port is used for communications between the controller and a computer terminal, a 9 pin null-modem RS 232-C connector/cable is required.
The Host Computer can set the output voltage with current limit, or the output current with voltage limit. The Host Computer can then have the MST 488-27 read back the actual output voltage and current delivered by each of the power modules to their respective loads. The MST 488-27 is continually polling all of the power modules on the IEEE 1118 bus for error flags.
Kepco MST 36-5A Power Modules (x4)
MST 36-5A power modules are programmable power supplies that are compatible with Kepcos single address, multiple instrument serial control bus. The MST provide precision interactive control in the 200 Watt power class.
Kepcos MST employ switching technology for high efficiency and high power density combined with linear stabilization techniques for accuracy and resolution. The switching front end is an advanced current mode controller with power factor correction. A power factor of better than 0.98 ensures that the MST meets EN 61000-3-2. A wide-range a-c input accepts any mains voltage from 88 to 264V a-c. MST are packaged in a 4U, 7" high 1/9th rack-width plug-in module that mounts in a special housing (RA55)
The MST modules plug in from the front and may be unplugged and removed without shutting down the entire power system. N+1 redundancy is provided with forced current sharing when like modules are mounted together and wired in parallel. Eight different modules are offered from a 0-6V/20A unit to a 0-150V/1.2A rating. The RA 55 housing may be filled with either 9 power modules or with 8 power supply units, with the ninth slot devoted to the IEEE 488.2 interface, MST 488-27.
