Sigma Reverse Phase TLC Plates
A box with two sealed packs of N.O.S. (new old stock) TLC plates. A unique type of plate with a mean particle size of 9 m, a 60 mean pore size and a 250 m layer thickness. The media contains a 254 nm fluorescent indicator.
It was difficult to tell if the outer box had been opened or not, however all interior contents are extremely clean. Note that the lines seen on the plate packs are folds in the very thick shrink wrap.
The Sigma label states that these were made in Germany and the included usage guide is from the German firm Macherey-Nagel . The usage booklet describes these as the novel wettable TLC plate...RP-18 W/UV254, and that the plates are used in both reversed and normal phase chromatography. The media is a partially-silanized C-18 silica creating a "hybrid" plate where the differentiation between normal and reversed phases, or the polarity of the plates, is determined by the eluent itself. This booklet also gives sample chromatograms for the following types of compounds - aminophenols, barbiturates, preservatives, nucleobases, PAH's, steroids and phthalates, with more than one sample type with tetracyclines and steroids.
Unknown, however the 10x20 cm version of these same Macherey-Nagel RP-18W/UV254 plates was found at a retailer for $855.80.
