INDURA Ultra Soft and INDURA Overview
INDURA brand fabrics revolutionized the secondary protective clothing market close to 20 years ago by proving Protection, Comfort and Value. INDURA Ultra Soft and INDURA are Guaranteed Flame Resistant for the Life of the Garment in both industrial and home laundry conditions. Millions of garments are in service worldwide in the electrical maintenance, electric & gas utilities, oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, military and ferrous metals industries. INDURA Ultra Soft and INDURA fabrics come in a variety of styles, weights & colors and are manufactured by quality apparel companies around the world.
Westex s first durable flame resistant cotton fabric Proban /FR-7A was introduced in the early 1970 s. Proban/FR-7A is a 100% cotton fabric with a flame resistant finish that is guaranteed for 25 industrial launderings or 50 home launderings. Proban/FR-7A has been typically used in the steel, welding and ferrous metal markets where garments were destroyed in use before reaching their flame resistant certification points.
In 1987, Westex, Inc. began a major research and development program that resulted in an advanced proprietary technology of the INDURA brand fabrics. The Advanced INDURA technology combines custom engineered equipment with additional proprietary processing steps at nearly every stage of the engineering process. The superior INDURA technology has led to the market proven guarantee of flame resistance for the life of the garment in both home and high temperature industrial laundry systems used in both the original INDURA and advanced INDURA Ultra Soft flame resistant fabrics.
The introduction of INDURA 100% cotton fabrics became the first effective competitor to Nomex flame resistant fabrics by providing both protection, comfort and value. After a decade of success, INDURA Ultra Soft 88% Cotton and 12% high Tenacity Nylon fabrics were introduced in 1996. INDURA Ultra Soft fabrics focused a small amount of high tenacity nylon in the face of the fabric to provide enhanced abrasion resistance for an extended garment wear life. The new INDURA Ultra Soft blend also provided superior test results in electric arc flash and flash fire testing over the original INDURA fabrics. A softer feel enhances the cool comfort characteristics of the INDURA Ultra Soft to provide an industry leading balance of Protection, Comfort and Value unsurpassed in the marketplace today.
