2M fibre optic - light guide - 1.0MM dia
1.0mm diameter Light Fibre - (Fibre Optic) 2 metres in length.
This is very versatile stuff, you simply shine light in at one end & it comes out the other, so it can be used in models, decorations, lighting effects & all sorts of other things.
The material is a type of plastic & so it can be cut easily with a sharp knife (even a pair of scissors or wire cutters at a push)
To get the best light output make sure that the ends of the fibre are cut cleanly & square.
To get points of light along the length of the fibre, simply nick it with a file, the deeper the cut, the more light will come out - be careful as this will weaken the fibre.
LEDs make ideal light sources. A piece of heatshrink sleeve is ideal to hold the fibre in place at the end of the LED - although you can get away with nothing more sophisticated than a piece of sticky tape!
This fibre is very flexible & will happily bend to around 15mm radius, & possibly even tighter curves than that, although if bent too tight it will become permanently bent.
