Maximum Machine Rigidity Achieved by Using a One Piece Column Design:
The one piece column design that combines large way surfaces for slide stability, heavily ribbed box-type construction for torsional rigidity, and a stable low center of gravity that yields excellent vibration resistance. Rigidity has been optimized particularly in the vicinity of the internal ribbing. These internal ribs effectively conduct the cutting energy at the way surfaces to the ground and at the same time improve the rigidity of the machine. This type on construction allows accurate machining of all types of materials from cast iron to steel forgings.
O-M has designed a special box-type slide-way between the saddle and the cross rail that maintains excellent rigidity and accuracy for a long period of performance.
Powerful High Torque, High Output Spindle Drive Supports Machine Accuracy and Heavy-Duty Cutting
An efficient heavy-duty 60/50 HP AC spindle motor combined with a two speed geared gearbox enables maximum spindle output over a wide range of speeds. Stepless spindle speeds can be selected within either range to suit the type of machining on a variety of materials. The main drive motor is installed separately from the machine to eliminate the influence of vibration and heat during high-speed rotation and heavy cutting operations.
Improvements in the Servo Drive System and Positioning Accuracy:
Large 4.5 HP Servo drives achieve rapid traverse rates of 630 IPM in the X-axis and 472 IPM in the Z-axis for the ram tool head. Plus, machining accuracy has been improved with a unique high-accuracy ball screw developed by O-M Ltd. Emphasis on design details improve operation.
