This listing is for a used Falix abrasion test machine in good condition. This machine is used to determine the resistance of metallic materials to scratching abrasion. Machine has the expanded capability and flexibility to conduct many other types of abrasive wear tests under a wide range of conditions. The system consists of the test machine itself and a control cabinet. The test machine uses a 2.5:1 counterbalanced lever to apply presure on the specimen against the rotating wheel. Sand is poured onto the point at which the specimen touches the wheel. The force at which the specimen is pressed against the wheel depends on the amount of weight added to the bale, which is displayed as "friction force" on the control panel via the load cell system. Other controls include start/stop timer, specimen cycle timer, specimen temperature, specimen RPM meter, normal/low speed switch, friction zero control and variable wheel speed control.
Machine was powered up and partially tested. Motor turns on and can be run in the forward and reverse direction and the variable speed option was tested. Timer was tested and works as well. The force meter was easily zeroed with "friction zero" knob. Force was displayed as we manually pulled on load cell.
The overall condition of the system is very good with only minor scratches. The sand sight glass is cracked, although it would not impede the sand from flowing through. The weight set is not included. The dry sand/rubber wheel measures 8.25" which was worn down from 9" when new. A movable drive allows +- 0.5" adjustment to allow for wheel wear, but this wheel may be need to be replaced.
