Heritage delaware hatching eggs - excellent layers

Delawares are known for their very curious outgoing personalities. They love to be in the middle of everybody's business, and want to tell you all about it everytime you visit the coop. Dels have a true sense of fun, and will play with almost anything you leave in their pen. I often hang objects from the walls and ceilings during the winter to keep their busy minds active and happy. Out roo is super sweet and loves to hang out on my lap for attention and treats. Though most of the time he hands those treats right over to the girls. He is a true ladies man and woos the girls with a lovely courting dance that is quickly being lost in many of todays breeds.
At Zephyr Creek we are selecting for both APA standards and production values. We feel production values are what will truly save some of these lovely heritage breeds. Our current flock exceeds at production values, great maturation rate (laying at 20-22 weeks), has a nice "meaty" body type, and bright orange legs. Areas to work on are excessive smuttiness (on back) of some chicks, variations of tail black, and 5 pointed combs. Our flock is a work in progress, but we are almost there.
Our birds are fed all locally grown grains purchased directly from the farmer. It is a combination of layer mix and whole wheat. They are also supplemented with fresh greens, hay from our fields, and free ranged for a few hours ( at least) most days. They have never received medicated feeds. We also use DE and Apple Cider Vinegar.
