Borescope. 20" x 3/4" ridgid tube.
Manufactured by Acme Borescope/American Cystoscope for the Allison Engine Division of General Motors.. Model 8-211A. Consists of a rigid, stainless-steel viewing tube with focusing eyepiece and 90 right angle viewing window. Probe is 3/4" dia x 20" long. Has 12 volt lamp control box, cables and fitted case. Power requirement is 115V, 1-1/2 A, 60 Hz. We haven't tested it but it appears to be complete, unused and ready to work. It shows some slight signs of shelf life.
The size of the probe makes it obvious that this unit was not intended for any medical use. (Well, maybe on elephants). We don't know much about borescopes but a good guess might be that it was designed to illuminate and inspect the inside of airplane engine cylinders, manifolds, guns, etc. There are multiple possible applications for this high end, precision instrument.
