Sodium Thiosulphate is a coarse colourless crystalline compound. It is very soluble in water, deliquescent in moist air and effloresces in dry air at temperatures >33 C. Sodium thiosulphate is produced chiefly from liquid waste products of sodium sulfide or sulfur dye manufacture. It is also produced from the action of sodium sulfite on sulfur in aqueous solution.
Sodium thiosulphate dissolves silver salts as such its major use is in photography as a fixer for film and paper film.
It is used to dechlorinate tap water, and it has no effects on plants because it neutralizes when it touches chlorine in city water.
To lower chlorine levels in swimming pools and spas following super chlorination.
