A-6 Ground Stock (Color Code Purple) is a fine grained, superior quality, electric furnance, low temperature, air-hardening tool steel. It is a balanced combination of carbon, manganese, chrome and molybdenum resulting in an improved type of air-hardening characteristics even though it has outstanding machinability. A-6 is capable of being hardened from a low temperature such as was formerly restricted to many of the oil-hardening grades.
