For most therapy applications, 1.0MHz is the frequency used, but 3MHz is becoming much more popular because there are so many tissues that need to be treated that are within the first 3cm of skin penetration that a 1Mhz unit just will not work for. 3MHz it offers a good compromise between sufficiently deep penetration and adequate heating under customary exposure levels. Remember that the frequency is inversely proportional to the depth of penetration. In other words the 1MHz units goes deeper (3-5cm) than say 3MHz units (1-3cm).
